Here’s the thing, Lenny & Larry’s offers a radical alternative to the standard protein bar. They offer many products, but one of the most impressive is their line of “The Complete Cookie.” Started in 1993, the duo wanted to shift the way protein could be incorporated into a day and I would say that a complete, protein cookie is definitely a different approach!
I will say that while The Complete Cookies from Lenny & Larry’s are vegan, some of their other products are not. The Complete Cookie is available in 13 flavors including Choc-o Mint, Chocolate Chip, Birthday Cake, Coconut Chocolate Chip, Double Chocolate, Lemon Poppyseed, PB Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Spice, Snickerdoodle, Oatmeal Raisin, Peanut Butter, White Chocolaty Mac, and Apple Pie. Today, we’re (me, the vegan dietitian and my omnivore husband) going to review the best selling Snickerdoodle Complete Cookie. I’ve never tried it before but based on the reviews of The Complete Cookie in Snickerdoodle over at Amazon, I’m pretty excited! Let’s dive in…
Holy smokes! This is a melt in your mouth, totally soft and perfectly sweet cookie experience! I must say, I was not impressed with other flavors of the Complete Cookie, but the Snickerdoodle does not disappoint. I found other flavors to taste like protein powder pressed together with no taste resemblance of a cookie. The Snickerdoodle my dear friends is a sweet treat you can and totally feel good about eating. It’s thick and soft without being crumbly. There is a light sugar dusting on the outside that can fall off easily, but just expect to wash your hands after eating or eat it straight out of the package to minimize messes. All in all, the Snickerdoodle Complete Cookie is a vegan high protein snack that I highly recommend experiencing for yourself over at Amazon.
Although this bar tastes like the a gift from the cookie gods, from a nutritional standpoint, Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookie is still very much a cookie and not gluten free. With 200 calories in HALF a cookie and 7 grams of fat, it is not a low calorie food. In general, I find the serving size to be misleading as most people I know would eat the entire cookie if it’s a single packaged cookie. However, it’s important to note that a serving is half a cookie and all numbers need to be doubled.
Each half has 300 mg of sodium, so 600 mg of sodium in its entirety! That’s a lot more than most protein and nutrition bars and honestly even more than most chips and crackers or traditionally salty snacks. With 29 grams of carbohydrate from enriched wheat flour (the first ingredient) and 5 grams of fiber from an isolated chicory root isolate, this “complete cookie” starts to read like a concoction of an experiment vs actual whole foods.
There are 8 grams of plant-based protein from pea protein, vital wheat gluten, and rice protein in each Snickerdoodle half but in general, the overall ingredients are a bit science experiment-y to create an “ideal” cookie with a high amount of protein. However, it seems like in order for the Complete Cookie to taste good (which it tastes great!), the compromise is in the high caloric value and high sodium amount. This is much more of a food product snack vs a whole food snack but if you’re looking for a high protein treat, check out the Snickerdoodle Complete Cookie on Amazon.
The Non-Vegan Review
I love snickerdoodles in every variation. It is my all time favorite kind of cookie. Lenny & Larry gave me the excuse I needed to eat these all of the time. It’s not a treat bro, I’m working on my lats bro, gettin my 16 grams of protein in. Lol. Lenny & Larry really have a hit with this cookie. It’s dense but soft and has a fantastic cinnamon flavor. Really delicious! And, one cookie is 400 calories, so it will keep you satisfied through that entire workout (or sitting at the computer all day editing your wifeys ramblings about veganism, yoga, crystals, nutrition and so forth). All joking aside, these are really great protein cookies by Lenny & Larry. Get you sum now. And, of course, the best place to get Lenny & Larry cookies is on Amazon. Help support this site by shopping on Amazon using this link. Thank you! Non-vegan husband out!
We can definitely see why the Snickerdoodle Complete Cookie is a best seller! The Snickerdoodle Complete Cookie IS high protein but it IS a cookie that tastes amazing at the expense of creating more of a food product high in calories and sodium vs a whole food snack. However, depending on what you’re plant-based goals are, the Snickerdoodle Complete Cookie could still very much be a part of your world. For example, if you’re trying to increase your plant-based protein but you have a sweet tooth, the Snickerdoodle Complete Cookie would be a great option. If you are sick of traditional protein bars and you’re looking for something different, the Snickerdoodle Complete Cookie would be a great option.
