Palm oil has received a lot of media attention in the last few years as most of the cultivating practices to extract the oil from the specific palm tree is not environmentally friendly. There are many people who try to avoid using products (like makeup and beauty products) that contain palm oil. Palm Oil can also be found in foods as it’s inexpensive and shelf stable. You’ll find it in many packaged snacks and definitely more processed snacks, cakes, and cookies. Many vegans choose to limit or avoid foods with palm oil as well – which is not always easy to do! To help you out, I’m giving you 8 of my favorite palm oil free vegan protein bars. This takes some of that leg work out for you as many protein bars use palm oil including large brands like Vega. Let’s check out who made the top 8 palm oil free vegan protein bars and see why…

1. Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein Bar, S’Mores

Orgain Plant-Based Protein Bars are easy to find online or in retailers and the S’Mores flavor gives a pop of variety to most protein bars. Each vegan protein bar contains only 140 calories but a strong 10 grams of plant-based protein from brown rice and pea protein. Although this bar is high in protein, it would be best for a snack given the lower calorie amount. Also, with 6 grams of fiber, this bar will help keep you satisfied. One bummer is that Orgain doesn’t add any vitamins or minerals to the protein bar. This is not a problem if you’re consuming a multivitamin and/or a diet rich in a variety of foods to help you meet your nutrition needs – particularly as a vegan. Check out Orgain Plant-Based Protein Bars on Amazon.

2. Square Organics Protein Bars, Dark Chocolate Cookie Dough

Square Organics Protein Bars are gluten free, non-GMO and pure deliciousness! The rich chocolaty layer is decadent and the protein center doesn’t taste like traditional protein bars. Most of the time the chocolate outside layers contain palm oil as a stabilizer and to help the chocolate from melting but Square Organics uses coconut butter and coconut oil as the predominate fat/oil source. Each vegan bar has 200 calories, 10 grams of protein, and 2 grams of fiber without any added fillers, no sugar alcohols, and 100% plant-based vegan. If you’re following a vegan lifestyle and looking for palm oil free protein bars, Square Organics on Amazon is a fantastic choice.

3. Orgain Organic Simple Protein Bars, Chocolate Peanut Butter

Each Orgain Organic Simple Protein Bar has about 8 ingredients (yep, that’s it!) with 220-230 calories, 12 grams of protein, and 8-10 grams of fiber. As a dietitian, I really like the nutrient profile and ingredient list of these bars – you may love the taste or the fact that the Orgain Simple Protein Bars is a food you can tolerate if you have a stomach/GI system. Even if you don’t regularly feel like you have GI issues, you may notice a bit more with adding more fiber if you activity level or water consumption remains sub optimal. Find Organic Organic Simple Protein Bars on Amazon today.

4. SHANTI BAR Vegan Organic Superfood Protein Bar

Looking for a protein bar with plam oil that’s just a little different? The Shanti Protein Bar offers you unique flavors like mango turmeric and chocolate acai. Shanti bars are made of whole foods with about 4 grams of protein and about 17 grams of protein to help meet nutrition needs and help protect the environment without all that unnecessary concern of palm oil. I first tried Shanti bars in South Florida (that’s where they started) but now you can find Shanti Bars in many places including easily on Amazon.

5. think! (thinkThin) Vegan/Plant-Based High Protein Bar

think! protein bars come in both vegan and non-vegan varieties. Their plant-based high protein protein bar is palm oil free but they do use sugar alcohols to provide 5 grams of total sugar. think! vegan protein bars use a combination of pea, brown rice, and pumpkin protein for a well rounded taste that isn’t too chalky. These bars can be a good option if you are looking for a high protein vegan option without palm oil but honestly, sugar alcohols aren’t my favorite and I’d rather have the whole sugar from sources like maple syrup, etc. Check out think! High Protein Vegan Bars on Amazon.

6. Garden of Life Organic Fit Bar Sea Salt Caramel

Garden of Life Organic Fit Bars are also organic, non-GMO, vegan, and gluten-free. Brown rice protein and pea protein is the base of this vegan protein bar but it does have adaptagens like ashwagandha and green coffee bean extract to help the body accommodate to the physical stress of your sport. Not only does this bar not have any palm oil, there are also no added sugars and only 1 gram of total sugar – making it a great option for those watching overall sugar and still wanting a clean vegan, high protein option. Garden of Life Organic Fit Bars have 15 grams of protein and come in 7 different flavors available on Amazon. My favorite is the Sea Salt Caramel because it’s different than so many of the other chocolate bars.

7. Garden of Life Organic Sport Protein Bar, Vegan, Peanut Butter Chocolate

Garden of Life Organic Sport Protein Bar has a bit more protein than the Organic Fit Bar (20 grams per bar vs 15 grams per bar) but still remains palm oil free and filled with all vegan, plant-based ingredients. Available in 4 flavors on Amazon, these bars are great to help repair muscles after a workout with 3.2 BCAAs or they can be a meal replacement for many people on the go if paired with a piece of fruit with 10 grams of fiber and 280 calories per vegan bar. Garden of Life Organic Sport Protein Bars don’t melt, aren’t super chewy or crunchy or crumbly – providing a welcome texture to most.

8. Raw Rev Glo Protein Bars, Creamy Peanut Butter & Sea Salt

Raw Rev Glo Protein Bars have a range of protein from 10-15 grams with 2-5 grams of sugar and none of the flavors (eight flavors in all) contain palm oil as a stabilizer and fat source. These bars are a bit pricier as they are made with raw ingredients and many other bars are not entirely all raw. Raw Rev Glo Protein Bars can be a great option if you’re looking for a softer, chewier bar or you want a raw type of vegan protein bar.

Sadly, thinkThin Bar’s vegetable glycerin is derived from palm oil as I emailed them to ask about it.

Hello. Of the eight bars, which ones have the lowest sugar? Thanks in advance for your answer. I was just diagnosed with diabetes and am looking for some alternative snacks.
