Are Reese’s Puffs Vegan?
At first glance, it looks like General Mills Reese’s Puffs breakfast cereal is vegan as it does not contain any milk, milk products, or eggs (see ingredient list below). So those chocolately peanut buttery puffs are good to go, right?? Well…not so fast… Vitamin D3 is added to the General Mills Reese’s Puffs. Vitamin D3 can be plant-based but most of the time it is animal derived as this is more economical for the company. Unfortunately, General Mills Reese’s Puffs are not vegan. Check out the official ingredient list below. There are vegan peanut butter chocolate cereal options though!! Have no fear! 365 Everyday Value Organic Peanut Butter & Cocoa Balls are vegan as well as Nature’s Path Leapin Lemurs Organic Cereal, and Barbara’s Puffins Cereal in the Peanut Butter and Chocolate Flavor. Any of those three are tasty, healthy, and vegan peanut butter chocolate cereal options instead of General Mill’s Reese’s Puffs Cereal.

Was this news disappointing or relieving?? Let us know in the comments below! And remember, by the ingredients themselves without considering the fortification, General Mills Reese’s Puffs are vegan. It’s the vitamin fortification that turns them into a non-vegan food. However, this cereal still is not the best choice from a health perspective with 9 grams of sugar, 1 gram of fiber, and 2 grams of protein. Barbara’s Puffins Peanut Butter and Chocolate Cereal has the most fiber and protein (with 3 grams each) and has the same amount of sugar like the others with 9 grams of sugar.
