Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter started in the 1980’s when Richard was determined to offer natural whole foods. The thing is, at that time, consumers weren’t flocking to buy natural foods and everyone called him “crazy!” Over 30 years later, Crazy Richard’s continues to make single ingredient or minimal ingredient natural foods like peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, and energy balls – all vegan without animal or dairy products and only with wholesome natural ingredients!

If you’ve never heard of Crazy Richard’s, welcome to the cult following nut butter! If you are familiar with Crazy Richard’s then you know that people literally go crazy for the quality and simple decadence in each vegan Crazy Richard’s product. While all Crazy Richard’s products are exceptional, today I wanted to review the peanut butter. The single ingredient peanut butter (yep, that’s right – only peanuts are added into the nut butter!) comes in both crunchy and smooth. I’ve had both and spoiler alert, I love both. However, the biggest difference (aside from the chunks) is the consistency. The smooth Crazy Richard’s peanut butter is much runnier and more drool/drip worthy compared to the crunchy version. If you’re passionate about peanuts and peanut butter, check out Crazy Richard’s HERE or just keep reading to see how the creamy Crazy Richard’s peanut butter stacks up when it comes to taste and nutrition!

Taste Experience

Before I dive deep into this Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter, I want to warn my peanut butter lovers out there that the Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter does not have added salt, palm oil, or sweetener (unlike many, many peanut butters out there). What this means is that it won’t be as sweet or solid as JIF or skippy, but honestly, this is great for the nutrition profile (which you’ll see in the next section).

Ok, so with only one ingredient (only peanuts), I’m expecting peanut butter on peanut butter. ….and let’s just say Crazy Richard’s does not disappoint. This is not your average peanut butter. This is the peanut butter for the adults, for the serious ones who are all about deep and dreamy peanut butter. It’s thin and drooly drippy but ultra smooth and luxorious (no gritty or grainy peanut particles) with a super smooth melt-in-your-mouth quality (which is the best when dipping peanut butter with a chunk of apple!).

The roasting that Crazy Richard’s does on the creamy peanut butter tastes so complex but without any added ingredients, it’s so straightforwardly simple. Some heavily roasted nut butters can be a bit “mouth drying” after a bite and I’m not sure if it’s the lack of additional ingredients or the roasting itself, but Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter does not have that quality. Speaking of the peanut butters for adults or those who are all about that deep peanut taste, Crazy Richard’s Smooth Peanut Butter totally elevates your PB & J game. If you are still eating the same JIF you ate as a child, elevate your peanut butter game today with Crazy Richards Creamy Peanut Butter.

Nutrition

With only one ingredient, Crazy Richard’s is a vegan and non-GMO peanut butter that is a real show stopper when it comes to comparing it with other commercial peanut butters. Two tablespoons of Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter contains 180 calories with 16 grams of total fat. Peanuts are a great source of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats that help support heart health, boost brain function, and possibly prevent type 2 diabetes. Each plant-based serving has five grams of polyunsaturated fat and eight grams of monounsaturated fat to help meet essential fatty acid needs.

There is no added salt, so with 0mg of sodium, Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter is a great option for someone monitoring their sodium intake. If you enjoy nut butters with salt, I encourage you to add a sprinkle of pink sea salt either on top of your peanut butter spread or swirled into whatever you are dipping and doing with Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter.

Peanuts are a legume (kind of like a bean) and have some but minimal amounts of carbohydrates.  Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter has only five grams of total carbohydrates with three grams of fiber and no added sugars. The fiber helps stabilize blood sugar level and support a healthy diet. This would be a great peanut butter option for anyone, vegan or omnivore, wanting to add a healthy source of fats, plant-based protein and fiber into his or her day. Peanut butter can add quite the nutrition punch with eight grams of protein per serving and many vitamins and minerals. So add a dollop on oatmeal at breakfast, a dip with apples as a snack, and a peanut Thai sauce for dinner. There are lots of ways to incorporate peanut butter and with that high-quality deeply roasted taste, you’ll want to be noshing on Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter regularly!

Parting Thoughts

If you are living your best peanut butter life where you love the convenience and taste of a plant-based protein like peanut butter but you don’t understand why manufacturers add sugar, oil, and other “stuff” to their spreads, I am 110% with you! That’s why I love Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter. It’s insanely simple with only roasted peanuts but tastes so divine and sophisticated. The best way I can explain it is when you go from Folgers coffee (that’s like JIF in peanut butter world) to a coffee house special blend (Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter). Now remember, just because Crazy Richard’s is better for you than some nut butters, it still packs quite the nutritive and caloric punch – which is great if you are a vegan as oftentimes vegans should be consuming more fat in their diet to start with. So what do you say… if you’re ready to elevate your peanut butter (and you know you are), Crazy Richard’s Creamy Peanut Butter is your jam!
