Want to eat more raw but not sure where to start? As a vegan dietitian, I’ve explored my fair shar of raw cooking and as a cookbook collector, I’ve seen many vegan and raw cookbooks throughout the years. This is a compilation of the best raw vegan cookbooks and hopefully gives you a bit more insight if you’re interested in eating this way more often or if you’ve been at it for awhile and you need more inspiration.

5. The Fully Raw Diet: 21 Days to Better Health, with Meal and Exercise Plans, Tips, and 75 Recipes by Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram


What we love:
The Fully Raw Diet: 21 Days to Better Health vegan raw cookbook is not only packed with recipes, but there is an actual meal plan if you need a bit more guidance in learning hot to plan raw vegan meals. Honestly, this is an incredibly easy to follow beginners raw cookbook. I tended to like all the smoothie options only because raw vegan isn’t totally my jam. Considerations: I don’t feel like the exercise tips and plans are needed, but this is still a well rounded raw vegan cookbook to help you get started eating raw vegan.

4. Eat Raw, Eat Well: 400 Raw, Vegan and Gluten-Free Recipes by Douglas McNish

What we love: If you love variety and don’t like to eat the same foods over and over again, Eat Raw, Eat Well is a great raw vegan cookbook choice for you! With over 400 recipes, there’s a new one for everyday of the year to inspire and nourish. I personally loved the walnut portobello burger and sweet potato and zucchini mac and cheese. In general, I appreciate that the author provides a substantial amount of main dishes instead of only smoothies or salads that are inherently raw for the most part. Get inspired by buying Eat Raw, Eat Well today. 

Considerations: Some of the recipes in Eat Raw, Eat Well are more involved and may not be the best if you’re just beginning to eat raw vegan. However, if you regularly cooking in the kitchen, you would not be intimidated with the processes and it could give you many creative options!

3. The Rawsome Vegan Cookbook: A Balance of Raw and Lightly-Cooked, Gluten-Free Plant-Based Meals for Healthy Living by Emily von Euw

What we love: Emily hosts a popular blog, this Rawsome Life and while I’ve known her in the periphery for awhile, it wasn’t until I got her cookbook that I started to pay attention. Emily’s recipes in The Rawsome Vegan Cookbook are colorful, super creative while being endlessly practical for even the vegan or vegetarian who isn’t raw 100% and just wants to include more raw meals in their life. The photos are absolutely splendid and totally crave-able. The Rawsome Vegan Cookbook is a must-have for anyone who loves amazing, good-for-you eats that are easy, raw, and vegan. 

Considerations: Emily also features lightly cooked meals (which I love) so if you are looking for 100% uncooked raw, The Rawsome Vegan Cookbook may not be the best option for you.

2. The Raw Deal Cookbook: Over 100 Truly Simple Plant-Based Recipes for the Real World by Emily Monaco

What we love: The Raw Deal Cookbook takes a flexible approach to eating raw vegan. The author, Emily, offers practical recipes and tips to make raw vegan eating do able even if you don’t want to do it everyday. She also offers up substitutions for different ingredients in case you don’t have a particular ingredient on hand. There are also nut-free options for any nut allergens out there. This is huge as often times in raw eating, a significant amount of nuts are used. My favorite recipes in this book are the Raw Pad Thai and Cauliflower “Rice” with Cheese Sauce. Find your favorite recipe in The Raw Deal Cookbook after checking it out yourself!

Considerations: The Raw Deal Cookbook may not be the best raw beginner book as many of the recipes involving using sprouting ingredients and although this is a common practice in vegan raw eating, the amount of sprouted recipes may be a little daunting or overwhelming if you are new to it.

1. Raw. Vegan. Not Gross.: All Vegan and Mostly Raw Recipes for People Who Love to Eat by Laura Miller

What we love: Laura has an infectious personality you may know from her YouTube channel and this bubbly, approachable attitude comes across in the Raw. Vegan. Not Gross. cookbook. If you are not looking for a complicated, pretentious raw food book that you can use the recipes even if you’re looking to include more fruits and vegetables in your world, this Raw. Vegan. Not Gross. cookbook is the one for you. Hands down. There are so many great raw and slightly cooked recipes like the speghetti squash mac and cheese …and that spring roll dipping sauce? Plan on making a triple batch. Pick up your Raw. Vegan. Not Gross Cookbook today!

Considerations: The Raw. Vegan. Not Gross. Cookbook will be a fantastic addition to your cookbook collection that you will actually use on a regular basis but you can also check out Laura on her YouTube channel with the same name for other recipe inspiration.
