Orgain is a newer company with an impressive line of better-for-you nutrition products. The company started with Dr. Andrew Abraham. In his teen years, he was diagnosed with cancer and as a way to help him increase his nutritional status, he started consuming nutritional shakes. After feeling worse with these shakes that were often times filled with artificial ingredients and chemicals, he and his mother started blending their own shakes. Years later when Andrew became a physician himself, he wanted to give patients a cleaner form of nutrition. All of the Orgain products are soy free and gluten free as well as being devoid of corn syrup, carrageenan, GMOs, artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. Orgain has two product lines: a plant-based vegan food product line and a grass-fed dairy food product line to help improve overall nutritional status of everyone, regardless of dietary choices (which I think is pretty awesome!).

The plant-based Orgain product line includes ready to drink shakes, protein powders, protein bars, and superfood nutrition powders. Today, we’re reviewing Orgain’s Plant-Based Vegan Organic Protein Powder in Creamy Chocolate Fudge. The popular organic vegan protein powder is available on Amazon in Chocolate Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter, Cookies and Cream, and Creamy Chocolate Fudge flavors.

Taste Experience

When first mixing Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder into water and then almond milk, I was surprised at how creamy and non-gritty it was! It smelled like a warm and cozy cup of hot chocolate and I couldn’t wait to dive in! To my delight, it tasted just as great as it smelled. Honestly, I don’t care too much for chocolate protein powders because I find they can taste too artificial. Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder tasted just as real and authentic as if I made a protein powder from scratch. It honestly reminds be of the perfect combination of an unflavored protein powder (like a combination of pea protein and brown rice protein) but mixed with decadent rich creamy unsweetened cocoa powder.

My favorite way to enjoy Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder is an a smoothie. Now, when I use chocolate protein powders, I don’t enjoy using greens in the same smoothie. It turns a gross brown color and I just don’t like the taste. However, I will tell you my favorite way to use this Orgain Creamy Chocolate Fudge Vegan Protein Powder…in a smoothie with decadent and luxurious frozen cherries with unsweetened almond, soy, or coconut milk. The protein powder again tastes like a chocolate dessert powder and I totally forget that it’s loaded with protein and nutrition. I can drink the entire smoothie quickly without GI upset from the vegan protein powder and Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder is clean, just sweet enough, and incredibly delicious. Like I mentioned, I don’t usually go for chocolate protein powder, but I have this one on repeat because it tastes so real…just like cocoa! It’s easy to go through a lot of this vegan protein powder, so I would definitely encourage you to stock up and while you’re there, check out other reviews; you’ll see I’m not alone and this is a fan-freaking-tastic whole foods plant-based protein powder that would go great in baking too to increase the vegan protein content!

My favorite Smoothie with Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder:

  • 2 scoops of Orgain Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder
  • 1 cup+ frozen dark sweet cherries
  • 1 cup+ unsweetend almond or soy milk

Blend and enjoy for a quick post-workout snack, afternoon delight, or breakfast treat!

Nutrition

Each serving of  Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder has 150 calories with only 40 calories from fat. When we consider other vegan protein powders, Orgain’s product is definitely lower calorie than some others out there.

There’s only 4 grams of total fat in each protein powder serving, making  Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder a great option if you are following a low fat diet or are trying to lose weight with a vegan plant-based diet.

Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder does have a considerable amount of sodium per serving: 200mg per serving of protein powder and I would recommend blending the powder with a considerable about of liquid to help with fluid balance. If you are following a low sodium diet, you may need to take this into consideration moreso but if you workout regularlyor use the protein powder more as a meal replacement, this amount of sodium is completely reasonable.

What I really love about Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder is that it’s lower in carbohydrates (15 grams of total carbohydrate per serving) but high in fiber with 7 grams of fiber per serving and 0 grams of sugar. This fiber will not only help stabilize blood sugar levels and your energy level but may increase overall satiety and time between meals.

The other real show stopper with this Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder is the power of 21 grams of vegan plant-based protein per serving! That’s a huge amount of protein without relying on any animal products! Each serving is definitely a great way to get in vegan protein if you are looking to increase protein in your diet. Making a smoothie, pancakes, waffles, muffins, or just drinking the vegan protein powder mixed with water/protein is a fantastic way to boost your protein intake without having to think much about it. To put it into perspective, 21 grams of protein is about the same amount of protein as in 3-4 eggs (depending on the size), 3oz of cooked meat, or a cup and a half of cooked garbanzo beans.

The only considerable micronutrients you’ll find in the Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder is 10% of your calcium needs for the day and 20% of your iron needs for the day. The organic protein blend that includes organic pea protein, organic brown rice protein, and organic chia seed is to thank for these nutrient boosts. Because there aren’t a ton of added micronutrients, I would keep in mind that the protein powder itself does not have enough calories or micronutrients to really stand alone as a meal replacement. If you are using the plant-based protein powder as a meal replacement, I would definitely recommend adding fruit, vegetables, and a soy or almond milk to help support the overall nutrition. In general though, honestly, this Creamy Chocolate Fudge Orgain Protein Powder is one of the best tasting and cleanest nutrition products I’ve seen out there and I would encourage you to get you hands on some here and see for yourself.

The Non-Vegan Review

The tricky part about me, a non-vegan, reviewing this Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder is that this flavor is chocolate and chocolate isn’t exactly my jam (crazy, crazy I know). I actually sometimes think my wife buys chocolates and chocolate flavored things as a way of keeping more to herself. 🙂 However, when it comes to the Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder, I must say, the chocolate isn’t unfortunate and the texture is actually quite nice. It probably helps that when she first served it to me, she offered it up via a vegan smoothie that had a bunch of frozen cherries (which I love). I will leave my wife to do all of the explaining when it comes to the nutrition, but in terms of texture, Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder has got it DOWN. It kept me full for quite awhile too – I would say at least an hour longer than smoothies without vegan protein powder or with plant-based protein powders that are not as power packed. If you’re in the market for a new vegan protein powder, I know there are a lot of options out there but after my wife has made me try SO MANY, I must say, Orgain is a powerhouse and creates a great tasting, high quality, smooth textured vegan protein powder that you should try out.

Parting Thoughts

If there is even an ounce of you that wants to increase your plant-based protein intake, I definitely recommend using Orgain Vegan Organic Creamy Chocolate Fudge Protein Powder to help meet your vegan or non-vegan protein needs. The protein powder is luxuriously creamy and ultra satisfying with a huge protein bomb of 21 grams of protein per serving. If you love chocolate and also love eating vegan high protein, this is your jam. Totally promise! Again, my favorite way to use this protein powder is in a smoothie with dark sweet cherries but it would work well in high protein recipes that require a protein powder.
