Are the Caveman Nutrition Bars Vegan?

Yes! The Caveman “Nutrition” Bars are vegan. The company does not promote vegan on the label but the fruit and nut based bars are vegan and totally dairy, egg, and honey free. Because the bar targets Paleo dieters, I think vegan would throw them off a bit. But! At the moment they can be a great snack bar option for vegans. The bars come in 4 fantastic flavors: Dark Chocolate Cherry Nut, Dark Chocolate Almond Nut, Dark Chocolate Caramel Cashew, Dark Chocolate Cashew Almond.

Today, we’re going to take a deeper dive into the Almond Cashew and review the bar’s taste and nutrition from me (a vegan dietitian) and my very non-vegan husband (who still loves eating!). If you want to check out the bars now, head to Amazon and you’ll find more information about these “accidentally vegan” bars.

Taste Experience

The Caveman Almond Cashew vegan nutrition bar smells nutty and slightly sweet but I am immediately most taken aback by the intense stickiness of the bar. Do not expect to touch and hold this bar and then type on a keyboard or drive a vehicle as you would definitely need to wash your hands first! I did start to eat the second half of the bar out of the wrapper to minimize the stickiness…but still, not pleasant.

The first bite is crunchy, nutty, and sticky but not as sweet as I expected. With whole sunflowers, almonds, and cashew pieces, you’re bound to get a few in eat bite. The agave and tapioca syrup isn’t as hard and chewy as other nutrition bars I’ve had but the nuts are roasted and full of crunch and taste.

If you’re into nutty based bars and you’re looking for something outside the usual “go-to” for vegan or non-vegan bars, I would check out Caveman Almond Cashew Bars on Amazon for a neutral, light taste packed with nutty goodness.

The Non-Vegan Review

Vegan Paleo? Isn’t that an oxymoron? Didn’t think that was possible. I laughed when my wife handed me this bar to review. It’s like the least likely bar a vegan would ever buy, for three reasons: 1. It says CaveMan on it, which kinda excludes woman, who are the majority of vegans, 2. No where on the package does it say “Vegan”, and 3. The bar is marketed as “Paleo”, which for most vegans brings up the images of eating raw meat with a glass of raw eggs.

But, as a vegan, you should not miss out on these bars. The Caveman Almond Cashew bar is 100% vegan and delicious. Awesome texture with lots of almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, cashews, and pistachios. Super wholesome ingredient list with no preservatives or anything crazy. I highly recommend them. And, of course, the best place to get them is on Amazon. Non-vegan husband out!

Parting Thoughts

These Almond Cashew Caveman Nutrition Bars have a mild, neutral, nutty taste that are great if you’re sick of the same old, same old vegan bars. You may not have tried them because they aren’t labeled as vegan, but I can assure you that not only are the nutrition bars vegan, but they are unlike any other bar out there. Using tapioca and agave syrup as a binder, it prevents the bar from becoming overly sweet. Although, the big downfall for this bar is that those same syrups make it stickier than most and we would advise to eat the Almond Cashew Caveman Bar directly from the package or prepare to wash your hands afterwards! The near perfect nutrition label makes up for the stickiness of the bar because this snack is a vegan dream – low in sugar, high in fiber, high in protein, and free of animal products.
