So as a vegan plant-based dietitian, I wanted to give you the best 6 peanut butters without all the fillers. These peanut butters are not only vegan but they are nutritious and you should (and totally can!) feel good about eating them!
The Best 6 Vegan Peanut Butters
What we love: If you’re a peanut butter lover in the natural form, the shareable Kirkland Peanut Butter size from Costco and available HERE is a real crowd pleaser. With only dry roasted organic peanuts and sea salt, this minimalist vegan peanut butter is a great option – especially if you go through a lot of it like I do!
Considerations: If you are a single person, a couple, or you just don’t go through much peanut butter, the Kirkland Signature Peanut Butter may be too big of a size for your household.
What we love: Also with only 2 ingredients: Virginia peanuts and sea salt, the Cream Nut Natural Peanut Butter is made from a smaller company in small batches as it has been for over 90 years! Any peanut butter company that has been around for that long knows a thing or two about delicious nut butter!
Considerations: The Cream Nut Natural Peanut Butter containers are in a glass container. So, if you have little ones who may drop it and have it break or if you have a flimsy shelf that can’t handle the weight, it may not be the best option.
What we love: A family-owned company out of California that makes their peanut butter in small batches, Spread the Love Peanut Butter is super tasty if you like more of a natural taste, not a super roasted flavor. With only one ingredient: organic dry roasted peanuts, Spread the Love Peanut Butter is more of drizzable consistency versus a spreadable consistency …which is great for dipping in apples or crackers.
Considerations: The consistency is considerably thinner in Spread the Love Peanut Butter than commercial brands with palm oil or sugar that help to thicken and stabilize the peanut butter so if you like a thicker consistency, this wouldn’t be the vegan peanut butter for you.
What we love: Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter has a great peanut butter taste without sugar, salt, or any added oils (or any other ingredients for that matter!). This peanut butter is also thinner in the smooth consistency but the crunchy peanut butter is thicker and also contains fairly good sized bits of peanuts. Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter has a cult following for good reason …it’s a great plant-based protein without all the junk!
Considerations: Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter doesn’t have added salt which can be a nice complement to the roasted nut taste and many people don’t like their peanut butter without salt (sometimes whether they know it or not!), so you could add salt if you wanted or keep it as is!
What we love: One of the more economical options for a natural, organic peanut butter, the Whole Foods 365 Everyday Value Organic Peanut Butter still has the great nutrition profile of peanut butter but with only dry roasted peanuts, it’s simple and wholesome.
Considerations: The 365 Everyday Value Organic Peanut Butter doesn’t have as much of a roasted nut flavor as some of the other peanut butters on this list but my guess is that it’s made in larger batches or not roasted as long and that helps control the cost.
What we love: Teddie’s is the driest, most roasted peanut butter that we’ve tasted and it pairs exceptionally well with juicy fruit like apples and pears or slathered on hearty waffles or spread on toast. It’s not too thick and it’s not to thin – Teddie’s All Natural Peanut Butter the Goldilocks of texture among natural peanut butters but will still have the oil layer that you can limit by storing upside down and stirring well before each use.
Considerations: If you don’t like that dry roasted nut taste, Teddie’s All Natural Peanut Butter may not be the best option for you as it is the dries roast we’ve tasted.
