Until recently, many store bought waffle and pancake mixes contained milk and/or egg. Of course, you can make your own vegan pancake or waffle mix easily with flax seed or chia seed as the egg replacer (1 tablespoon flax seed/chia seed mixed with 2-3 tablespoons of water). In replacement of dairy milk, you can use your favorite plant-based alternative. When it comes to store bought pancake and waffle mixes, there are some fun and interesting flour combinations that you may not have at home.

5 Best Plant-Based Pancake Mixes

5. HighKey Snacks Keto Food Pancake, Waffle & Bread Mix

What We Love: This high fiber pancake mix (7grams of fiber per serving) is marketed as being keto but it is also vegan without any milk/dairy products or eggs. It has 4grams of protein per serving and is primarily made from almond flour, tapioca flour, and coconut flour so it doesn’t have a light, airy pancake texture but does create a pancake with more grit and earth to each bite. Check out HighKey Vegan Pancake Mix HERE.

Considerations: It contains sugar alcohols (hence why they claim that it is keto and low sugar) which may not agree with everyone and may cause GI distress in large quantities. Aside from that, sugar alcohols are not the most natural form of a sweetener and if you are a vegan who enjoys natural products, this would not be the best vegan pancake mix for you.

4. Simple Mills Almond Flour Pancake Mix & Waffle Mix, Gluten Free

What We Love: Simple Mills makes many baking products that are made from simple ingredients, including this vegan plant-based pancake and waffle mix with only 7 ingredients. It’s certified gluten-free and non-GMO with an almond flour, coconut flour, and arrowroot base, it’s simple and straightforward. Almonds are a good source of plant-based calcium and iron so in each serving you’ll find 4% and 6% respectively. Check out the Simple Mills Almond Flour Pancake Mix HERE.

Considerations: The package makes about 20 pancakes or waffles which may not be enough to last very long depending on how often you eat plant-based pancakes and waffles!

3. Purely Elizabeth Grain-Free Pancake Mix – Paleo Pancake

What We Love: Purely Elizabeth makes grain-free and mostly certified gluten free products. This company started making granolas and has since expanded their product line including to these grain-free pancakes that are vegan with almond flour and coconut flour as the base. We like this better than some other paleo or keto marketed pancake mixes because Purely Elizabeth’s pancakes do not contain any added sugar or sugar alcohols. Check out Purely Elizabeth’s Vegan and Paleo friendly pancakes HERE.

Considerations: This is a bit pricier than a grain based product, naturally because almonds and coconuts are more expensive than wheat and oats.

2. Orgain Protein Pancake & Waffle Mix, Whole Wheat & Oat

What We Love: Orgain Protein Pancakes are high in protein with 10g of plant-based protein per serving. The vegan pancake mix is made from whole wheat and oats so it’s a bit more airy and fluffy than the almond flour based pancakes in our opinion. It’s also certified organic and non-GMO which can be reassuring if you’re looking for cleaner foods for you and your family. Check out Orgain Protein Pancakes HERE.

Considerations: Honestly, the only consideration is that Orgain Protein Pancakes are not gluten free but otherwise it’s a truly outstanding higher protein pancake option.

1. Bob’s Red Mill Organic 7 Grain Pancake & Waffle Mix 24 oz

What We Love: Bob’s Red Mill Organic 7 Grain Pancake Mix is hearty from a mix of whole grains like wheat, rye, spelt, corn, oat, Kamut, quinoa, brown rice flour, and flaxseed meal. This combination create a unique nutty, earthy quality that doesn’t compromise a fluffy pancake you’ve grown to love. These whole grains contain a variety of vitamins and minerals and in one serving of this plant-based pancake mix, you’ll find 10% of your iron needs for the day along with 7 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber. Enjoy Bob’s Red Mill Organic 7 Grain Pancake & Waffle Mix HERE.

Considerations: Bob’s Red Mill Organic 7 Grain Pancake & Waffle Mix is indeed made with whole grains which means that it is not gluten free. So if you are looking for a gluten-free, vegan pancake mix, I would suggest checking out one of the ones listed above that is made with almond flour and coconut flour as the base.
