Is Dove bar soap vegan? The short answer is NO. But, hold on and let me explain why it’s not vegan and keep scrolling to see my list of favorite vegan bar soaps. So, why is Dove bar soap not vegan? Well, it’s made with Sodium Tallowate and the “tallow” part of that ingredient should give you a hint. Yes, that’s right, Dove soap contains tallow, which is the fat derived from the fatty tissue of sheep or cattle. Dove bar soap is made from animal fat mixed with lye (sodium hydroxide). Really gross if you ask me. Can you imagine rubbing rendered fat all over your body? How can anyone feel clean doing that?

Don’t believe me? Take a look at the ingredients on the back of the box.

And, to add insult to injury, Dove isn’t even a good soap. It has a laundry list of chemicals in it and an unknown “fragrance” in it. But, whatever, dump this bar soap and get something cruelty-free and better for your skin.

Here is my list of favorite cruelty-free and vegan bar soaps. All links take you to Amazon.

Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Bar Soap

Dr. Bronner’s pure castile bar soap is my all time favorite vegan bar soap. It’s made with plant derived oils, lasts a really long time, and all of the scents are from plant extracts. Dr. Bronner’s is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Buy it HERE.

Crate 61 100% Vegan Cold Process Bar Soap

Crate 61 makes an incredible variety of 100% vegan cold process bar soaps that have no fragrances or synthetic chemicals and use only premium essential oils. I’ve gone through several cases of Crate 61 bar soap and I absolutely love them. And, the packaging is super cute with each soap being packaged in its own cardboard box. Buy them HERE.

Bali Soap – Natural Vegan Soap Bar

I was actually introduced to Bali Soap while traveling in Indonesia. All of their bar soaps are 100% vegan, cold processed, and made with natural plant derived scents. The bars last a long time, are gentile on your skin, and rinse off clean on your skin. Buy them HERE.

Well, there you go. We learned that Dove soap is made out of gross animal fat. If you’re using Dove, stop it, stop slathering animal fat on your body. And, I gave you some great options for vegan bar soaps. I hope you enjoyed this post. Leave me a comment below or just say hello. Thanks!

The packaging actually says it’s vegetarian. So that means sodium tallowate is plantbased. Codecheck app itself says it COULD be from animals but the hint “vegetarian” on the packaging makes it save.

And this soap is made in Germany for the German market. Not in China.

Yes, I think the ingredients list must be different in other countries. I am in the UK, and our Dove beauty bar is made in Germany. It states it is made with plant-based cleansers and is vegetarian. The ingredients list is Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, Sodium Palmate, Aqua, Sodium Isethionate, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Parfum, Sodium Chloride, Zinc Oxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Citronellol, Coumarin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool, CI 77891.

I’m not sure if any of these are animal products?

Scents in general and essential oils in particular are common irritants. I am allergic to most scented products and the ones you recommend are a nightmare for someone allergy prone. How bout recommending a good unscented (via any mode) vegan soap?

Yes ! I have to use Dove because any other soap will irritate me and cause infections, and UTIs. Need a OBGYN/dermatologist recommended vegan soap.
