Naan is a flatbread typically consumed in Western Asia, South Asia, Indonesia, and some parts of the Caribbean. Naan typically has milk and a source of fat that is usually butter or ghee. Therefore, many naans are not vegan. However, there are few types of vegan naan on the market. These naans go perfectly with your curries, stews, or any brightly flavored dish that needs a soft, neutral but flavorful bread on the side!
4 Best Vegan Naans
4. Atoria’s Family Bakery Traditional Naan bread
What We Love: Atoria’s Naan is baked in a nut free and dairy free facility, which means no crossover worries! The soft bread keeps for a long time in the fridge or freezer – so it’s always ready when you are. The ingredients are straightforward and simple which leads to a real rustic and fresh flavor. Find Atoria’s Traditional Naan HERE.
Considerations: Some of the other vegan naan options on our list have fiber while Atoria’s Family Bakery Naan does not. It’s also important to note that the serving size is 1/3 of the bread – which means that if you ate more than that (which is easy to do!), you’d have to adjust the calories and nutrition information accordingly.
3. Stonefire Organic Naan – Original
What We Love: Stonefire was probably one of the original brands to deliver vegan naan on a mainstream market which means their consistency and reliability is no joke. The pillowy thick naan bread is a great base for at home vegan pizzas or just used to scoop up thick curries and sauces! This particular Stonefire is organic and we love that they offer an organic option as none of the other options are. So if organic vegan naan is important to you, Stonefire Organic Naan may be a good choice for you.
Considerations: Stonefire naan is a bit thicker than some of the other vegan and non-vegan naan options, so if you like a thinner bread, this naan flatbread may not be the best option for you.
2. Toufayan Bakery – Garlic Naan Bread Flatbread – Traditional East Indian Pita Bread
What We Love: Another longstanding brand in the bread department is Toufayan. This company is better known for their pitas but their newer to the market naans are well received by kids and adults alike. With 5 grams of protein, this soft and delicious naan is a great on its own or in a favorite recipe – much like a personal pan pizza. You can find Toufayan Garlic Naan in many places, including online HERE.
Considerations: This is a smidgen smaller than some of the other breads – which we personally like but if you’re a hearty bread lover, you may want more (or just a second piece!).
1. Toufayan Bakery – Garlic Tandoori Indian Flatbread
What We Love: Again, Toufayan makes quality bread products and has for years and years. With non-GMO ingredients plus 2 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein per serving, these Tandoori Indian Flatbreads can turn boring bread into versatile deliciousness! Feel free to freeze the flatbread to make it last longer but these tasty flatbreads are great for sandwiches, dips, or pizza and there’s a good chance the vegan naan variety won’t last long! Check out the Garlic Tandoori Flatbread HERE.
Considerations: Toufayan flatbread isn’t totally a naan but it’s thinner and more like the naan you would find in a restaurant. If you like thick, hearty, bready naan, consider an alternative. If you like practical versatility without all the extra carbs, bingo – this vegan naan-ish Indian Flatbread is where it’s at!
